Six Primary Schools took part in our Four-Way Test Speaking Competition on Wednesday evening - Floreat Park, Lake Monger, Wembley, Churchlands, Kapinara and City Beach. The 12 contestants were ably supported by family, friends, school principals and teachers, and they each spoke for 3 minutes on a topic of their own choice. The panel of judges then had to deliberate on who the winner and the runner-up would be, as those two students will go forward into the Final of the Competition which will take place at a date and time to be announced. The chosen winner was Rose Leaver from Wembley Primary whose topic was ‘School’, and the runner-up turned out to be Shiloh Goggin, also from Wembley Primary, whose topic was ‘Vocabulary/Words’. The contestants were required to demonstrate how their topic fitted in with the principles of the Rotary Four Way Test, and it was amazing how each and every student showed remarkable competence. Apart from the winner and the runner-up, two other contestants worthy of mention were Roderick Riebensahm from Floreat Park (‘The Stolen Generation’) and Daisy Thompson from Churchlands (‘Neurological Diversity’). A huge thank you to Jeremy Wood for organising the contest so well, and to Libby for putting together hampers for the raffle. Thanks, too, to Club members and relatives who helped on the night.
