Janine Wood is a co-founder and Chairperson of No Limits Perth Inc. and she came along with fellow volunteer Cathy to tell us all about this amazing not for profit organisation which was established in 2015 to provide critical emergency support services to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals in Perth’s northern suburbs. They operate on the principle of One Random Act of Kindness at a Time, and anyone can volunteer to assist. The Mission of No Limits is to provide emergency relief in the form of food hampers, toiletries, bed linen, household furniture and cleaning items to those in need – victims of domestic violence, the unemployed, low-income earners, pensioners, single parent families, the homeless, new comers to this country, and just about anyone who genuinely needs a helping hand. Janine gave examples of people who they have helped; Neil was involved in a car accident and was seriously injured including a broken jaw. He became homeless, but he could not access his 3rd party insurance payout because every time he phoned, he was told to call back when he was sober – his broken jaw made him sound drunk. Neil was taken in by a volunteer family and later gained access to his money which went towards re-establishing himself. Janine described No Limits involvement with the Joondalup and Wanneroo Community Hubs, for example the provision of mobile clothes-washing and drying facilities, plus helping youth workers to engage with those misguided youngsters who frequent shopping centres with ill intent.
