Have you heard of Access Hope? Its Founder and CEO, Linda Gouldsmith, came along this week to tell us all about how the organisation helps overseas disadvantaged people (mostly children), predominantly in the Kipsongo Slum area of Kenya – known as the place of the dogs. Linda felt called by God to take action, and she has established  a children’s home using donations from people in Perth. This home for destitute kids started with 20 children, but it now has 53 children and employs 14 caregivers. Access Hope plays a significant role in empowering the children to break the poverty cycle, and it arranges sponsorships for the children and also their caregivers. These Partnership Plans provide a funding base which gives long-term security for the children in Access Hope’s care. The children attend the local primary school, but whilst they are at home they take part in all sorts of activities – including singing lessons, learning how to play the recorder, fun-filled family outings, and cooking classes.
There is also a Community Based Care programme which gives support to kids living in the community, and Access Hope assists prisoners by training them in basic administration techniques and computer usage. They also extend help to some people in Nigeria and South Sudan from time to time. To sum up, Access Hope’s vision is simple: to build bright futures for orphaned and vulnerable children by providing stability, education, and the guidance needed to break the cycle of poverty. They live out their faith by partnering with local communities, ensuring that every effort promotes the Gospel and creates sustainable, transformative growth.
