We didn’t have our normal Wednesday meeting this week due to our involvement with the Rotary WA Drivers Education programme (RWADE). About 175 Year 10 students and 12 teachers from John XXIII College attended the Driver Training programme at the Claremont Showgrounds. The programme ran from 9.45 am to 2.15 pm and consisted of six 30 minute sessions addressing various aspects of driving and owning a car. The sessions included separate addresses by the police and a crash survivor plus an address on hazards, distractions and risks and a practical demonstration of stopping distances. The presentations were all interesting and informative and well received by the students.
Thanks to Lindsey Francis from the Matilda Bay Club for co-ordinating the programme and thanks also to Pres Jeremy, David James, Graham McHarrie, Jim Berry and Rory Beattie for guiding their groups to and from the sessions for the day - particular thanks to Jeremy for stepping in at short notice. Also, to Eileen Nathan for preparing and serving morning tea for the presenters, teachers and Rotarians. The Rapid Response Team again provided an excellent lunch for all at no cost and the Club will make a donation to them, similar to previous years.
This is a worthwhile event for the Club to participate in.
