Recently appointed CEO of the Town of Cambridge, Lisa Clack, spoke to members and guests about her experience, qualifications and time at the Town’s office. Her introduction to Local Government came in the East Pilbara where she was involved with formulating an appropriately culturally sensitive Aged Care policy for the Mardo people. She then moved to State Local Government where she was involved with Emergency Services. She helped draft a policy for the protection of School Leavers and solve the problems relating to drunkenness and sexual assault during “schoolies” week. At the ToC, she emphasised that the elected officials set direction and make decisions while she and her staff advise the Councillors. It has been a challenge to keep up with State Government legislation and ensure that the right framework is established to meet Community expectations. With an increased Planning Team on board, the Floreat and Wembley Structure plans have been able to be put before the local communities and consultations with the various interest groups are ongoing. Ongoing planning is being undertaken to ensure that the Town’s Sporting needs are being met. There is a large capital works programme being undertaken - made larger by the bankruptcy of the Contractor at the Floreat SLSC. Despite this the Town’s Finances are healthy with diverse income streams in place.
