This week’s meeting was a walk along the Sikh Heritage Trail with Tarun Preet Singh as our guide. 16 intrepid Rotarians and partners ventured to the wilds of south of the river to walk the Trail at Riverton. However, upon arrival at the starting point it was bucketing down, with no letup in sight. As an act of preservation, it was decided to abandon the trail walk (now re-named the Sokh Heritage Trail), and we all decamped to the much drier local library. There, our guide Tarun Preet Singh gave us a most interesting insight into the history of Sikhs in WA dating back to the middle of the 19th century. Tarun is researching their history and told many entertaining stories of Sikh exploits. A "short" walk from the library to lunch at the Riverton Bar and Grill turned into a cross-country route march, but we all arrived safely after fording swollen gutters and surviving the suicidal crossing of High Road. A most enjoyable lunch and social get together followed. Special thanks to Tarun for his help in organising the outing (and we can't blame him for the weather) and in joining us for lunch.
